Power systems are facing increasingly complex reliability challenges, prompting continued focus on how resource adequacy is defined, assessed, and planned.

G-PST convened a series of webinars and an in-person workshop in Washington, D.C., bringing together researchers, system operators, industry representatives, and policymakers to explore resource adequacy from both technical and market perspectives, including modeling approaches, planning challenges, and the role of market design. A summary document was developed to synthesize insights from across these engagements, with a focus on resource adequacy assessment and its interaction with market structures, highlighting key themes, areas of alignment, and remaining questions.

In parallel, G-PST authors developed a paper, published through IEEE, that provides a comprehensive review of resource adequacy assessment and planning practices. It outlines seven key best practices, examines modern approaches to capacity accreditation, and compares these methods with current industry applications, identifying areas of progress as well as gaps for further development.

Together, these resources provide a evidence-based overview of current approaches to resource adequacy and considerations for future work.
