This webinar provides a summary of all chapters of the CIGRE Green Book on Power System Dynamics Modelling and Analysis in Evolving Networks and then focuses on more detailed presentation of selected topics as follows:

  • Highlight the need to revisit classical power system stability concepts and textbooks.

  • Discuss power system stability classes and sub-classes, with a focus on dynamic analysis under high inverter-based resource (IBR) penetration and practical instability experiences.

  • Explore dynamic modelling approaches, including phasor-domain and electromagnetic transient programs, and simulation software ranging from detailed to simplified, with applications in operational decision-making.

  • Address the necessary model detail for different power system components, including synchronous machines, IBR, HVDC systems, DER, and protection systems.

  • Present dynamic studies in power systems with high penetration of power electronics, including grid interconnections for IBRs, HVDC systems, FACTS controllers, and studies on electromechanical oscillations, control interactions, and industrial microgrids.

  • Focus on high-quality, accurate dynamic models for plants and systems, from early model acceptance to validation for connected and commissioned plants.

  • Discuss modern enablers for dynamic analysis, including AI, machine learning, cloud computing, probabilistic analysis, optimization techniques, and the importance of interoperability and standardization.
