On September 22, 2022, the G-PST Consortium was officially confirmed as a partner agency to an initiative called “Renewables in Latin America and the Caribbean” (RELAC). In accordance with the RELAC by-laws, members countries were consulted on the addition of G-PST as a partner agency and the response was overwhelmingly positive, demonstrating an appreciation from RELAC member countries for G-PST’s work globally and in the region.

RELAC is a platform aimed at promoting the introduction of renewable energy in Latin America and the Caribbean. This is a voluntary initiative of countries in the region, established at the 2019 United Nations Climate Action Summit, and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) promotes the activity as the leading secretariat. The initiative aims to achieve both economic development and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by promoting the introduction of renewable energy and has the ambitious goal of increasing the proportion of renewable energy in the region to 70% or more by 2030. Currently, 15* countries are participating, and each country is required to declare its goals for the introduction of renewable energy.

Through participation in RELAC, G-PST will support RELAC’s objective to accelerating renewable energy deployment across Latin America and the Caribbean by sharing knowledge and expertise from our system operator network through communities of practice and other platforms. The G-PST Consortium is excited and honored to participate in the RELAC initiative and looking forward to future collaboration.
